Dharampatni is LOOSLY inspired from Gandhi: Harshad Chopra

28-year admired chocolate cupcake  Harshad Chopra, who  is all set to play the lead role in forthcoming show 'Dharampatni' on Imagine, confessed that his character of Mohan Galla in the show has slight inspiration from the life of Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi.

According to initial rumours the show was based on Gandhi and Kasturba's life. But the actor said "It is not based on Karamchand or Kasturba Gandhi’s life, it's about Mohan Galla and his wife Kastur.  Mohan Galla grows up to be a man who brings about some social changes in his society, like Gandhi. The show is LOOSELY inspired not based on Gandhi’s life and is a modern representation of Gandhiji's principles. Gandhi fought against British Raj, whereas Mohan Galla will give message in contemporary to deal with different issues."

"Mohan Galla went to foreign for education and hardly cares about Indian culture. He is  faced bad situations in India after his return. He got married to Kastur, (Aasiya Kazi), who is quite cheerful, dedicated, buoyant and grounded in her culture," he added.

Frankly, when I heard the story line I felt it was like Swades movie. But it is not, the characters are completely different' he lamented.

When asked why he is experimented by doing such type of show, ‘For me, every new show that I take is like a new journey, I don't like to repeat my roles. It’s a challenging role so I accepted it.

If a character makes me think –How is it different from other character which I had portrayed? What will I do? What will happen on the sets? How can I add to the character?' - That’s what excites me. I am very positive about the show, I hope our fans accept it because it’s quite different from what I did till date', he quips.

We wish him best of luck for his new show..
